Mayor Lynn Stauss, is an active, life-long resident of the City of East Grand Forks. The Mayor is a member of the VFW, American Legion, Eagles and the East Grand Forks Blue Line Club. He and his wife Marjorie, have 3 grown children . . . Scott, Kelly and Jill. In his "spare" time Mayor Stauss enjoys spending time at his lake home with his family. Mayor Stauss graduated from the University of North Dakota where he received his B.S. in Elementary Education. He served in Vietnam from 1969-1971 and was awarded the Bronze Star. He taught 4th grade for 23 years and taught basic skills for 2 years. He also serves as the Education Foundation Director for School District #595, in that capacity he has raised thousands of dollars to benefit schools and education in the City of East Grand Forks, Minnesota. The Mayor has held several chairs in fund raising activities for the City. Two of his proudest accomplishments are the VFW Arena and Nash Park. His efforts in those two projects amassed funds in excess of $2,000,000.00 The Mayor began his duties as a civil servant in 1980 when he was elected to the City Council. He served on the City's council for a total of 8 years. In November, 1995, he was successful in his bid for Mayor and began his official term on January 1, 1996. Following the devastating Red River Valley flood of April, 1997, the Mayor on four separate occasions, lobbied as part of a delegation in Washington, D. C. for the largest disaster aid bill in United States history. The Mayor was also one of six Minnesota Mayors who, under the leadership of Commissioner Dave Gruenes, traveled to Washington, D. C. in support of a 90/10 federal disaster assistance split for the State of Minnesota. The delegation was successful in securing the 90/10 split for cities up and down the Red River Valley. |
